- mum news - Mum Puppettheatre Announces 2002-2003 Season Returning Favorites and Exciting Original Work! For Immediate Release: August 13, 2002 Philadelphia, PA - Villagers band together to save their Paris neighborhood from greedy oil speculators. A cultural medley of puppetry tells the story of a young girl's adventures in a foreign land. A prince and princess find love and loss through magical transformations. A plush rabbit learns what it means to be real. Truths about the present are revealed by a look into the past. After a fantastic 2001-2002 season full of awards and recognition, Mum Puppettheatre has prepared yet another season of incredible stories. With new work, visiting performers and a few returning favorites, 2002-2003 will be our best season yet! Mum Puppettheatre proudly announces its upcoming productions for the 2002-2003 season! The Madwoman of Chaillot, runs October 22nd through November 16th. Ticket prices range from $1 to $24. Performances are Tuesday and Wednesday at 7pm, Thursday through Saturday at 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm. Swan Lake, at 11:30am on October 26th at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Performances are Saturday and Sunday at 12pm and 2pm. East Meets West runs February 1st through February 23rd. Tickets are $12. Performances are Saturday and Sunday at 12pm and 2pm. When the War is Over/The World Owes Me a Living runs April 1st through April 26th. Ticket prices range from $12 to $24. What happens when the story of a group of oil prospectors who threaten to tear up a Paris neighborhood meets the athleticism and clowning of Commedia dell'Arte? Mum Puppettheatre's production of The Madwoman of Chaillot, that's what! Equus director, William Roudebush returns to direct a cast of Philadelphia's finest performers to tell a story about honor, love, greed, and battling conformity. Improvisation, masks, mime, and clowning capture the rich iconography of the Commedia dell'Arte tradition and create a unique performance every night! The Madwoman of Chaillot runs October 22nd through November 16th, 2002. Opening night is Wednesday October 30 at 7pm! Mum Puppettheatre will make its spectacular debut at Philadelphia's peerless performance venue, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, with a one-time-only performance of Swan Lake! Performed with hand puppets, rod puppets, shadows, and masks, Robert Smythe's adaptation of the Margery Williams classic, The Velveteen Rabbit, is a truly magical and unique experience. A favorite with audiences of all ages, The Velveteen Rabbit runs matinee performances November 29th through December 31st. All tickets are $12. Performances are Saturday and Sunday at 12pm and 2pm. There will be additional performances on Friday, November 29th at 12pm and 2pm; Monday, December 31st at 12pm and 2pm; and Tuesday, December 31st at 12pm and 2pm. Touching stories, intriguing situations, fascinating characters, and clever dances are woven together in East Meets West, the account of a Chinese woman's adjustment to American culture. Mum Puppettheatre is honored to have Master Artist Hua Hua Zhang share her enchanting story with our Family Series. With string puppets, hand puppets and rod puppets, Hua Hua Zhang artfully crafts striking vignettes using a mixture of traditional Chinese puppetry and innovations from her study of Western puppetry. Acclaimed around the world, Hua Hua Zhang and East Meets West are thrilling additions to Mum Puppettheatre's 2002-2003 season. East Meets West runs February 1st through February 23rd. Robert Smythe's tribute to the people only remembered by children and grandchildren, When the War is Over, gets a fresh twist when it is paired with a premier, original work, The World Owes Me a Living. With a healthy dash of wit and surrealism, When the War is Over/The World Owes Me a Living reminds us of the everyday ways our ancestors live through us. When the War is Over/ The World Owes Me a Living runs April 1st through April 23rd. Opening night is Wednesday April 9 at 7pm! Ticket prices for this evening of two shows range from $20 to $24.
