Mum Puppettheatre Offers Winter Classes: Training Intensives for Professionals & Passionate Amateurs

Philadelphia, PA - Mum Puppettheatre School announces that there is still time to register for its winter semester of classes. Mum explores the interdisciplinary nature of puppetry and theatre with its community by offering several classes for both the theatrical professional and passionate art lover. Most classes culminate in a showcase for family and friends. Further information and registration forms on the following classes can be obtained by calling Mum Puppettheatre at 215.925.8686. Deadline for registration is January 12th. Work Study may be available to help with course fees.

Mask Making with artist-in-residence Sondra Blanchard! Monday evenings January 15 - March 5, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Build your own performance quality mask from a plaster cast of your face. Instructor Sondra Blanchard studied Masked Dance Drama with Chang Hee Park in South Korea and has worked with New Pickle Circus, Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, and Landis & Company Theatre of Magic. Course fee $200 includes all materials.

Introduction to Physical Acting with artist-in-residence Jarrid Masse! Monday Evenings January 15 - March 5, 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Learn to bolster your communication and performance skills in this basic movement class. Expand your movement vocabulary and explore the world of physical theatre. Jarrid Masse is a graduate of the Dell' Arte International School of Physical Theatre and was a winner in the 1999 Prague Internationl Dance Competition. Course fee $160.

Puppetry: Manipulation & Script Writing with guest performer Luman Coad. Saturday & Sunday, February 3rd & 4th, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Build your script writing skills and manipulation techniques while working towards the creation of your original work. Luman Coad, founder of Coad Canada Puppets presents this workshop while in residence at Mum performing his one man show Mr. Whipple's Whims and The Box? A Show of Feelings January 25th through February 11th. He is an accomplished puppet mime artist and the recipient of many international awards. Mr. Coad has also worked in television and film, most recently as puppeteer, consultant, and body double for the film Being John Malkovich. $100 course fee.

Mum Puppettheatre is the only theatre between Vermont and Atlanta dedicated solely to puppetry. Founded in 1985 as a wordless touring company using puppets and masks, Mum Puppettheatre combines powerful visual images with music and the imagination to create a unique theatrical experience for audiences of all ages and languages. To date, Mum Puppettheatre has earned three Citations of Excellence from Union Internationale de la Marionette and six Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre. In 1999, Mum Puppettheatre won the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Pennsylvania Department of Education Best Practices Award for its education and residency programs in schools.
