Mum Puppettheatre has received three "Citations for Excellence in the Art of Puppetry" presented by the American chapter of Union Internationale de la Marionnette, the highest honor an American puppet theatre can receive:

  • When the War is Over, 1996
  • From the Ashes, 1991
  • The Adventures of a Boy and His Dog in Outer Space, 1989

Mum Puppettheatre has received thirteen Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre presented by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia:

Mum Puppettheatre received a special education award from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

In addition, Robert Smythe, Mum Puppettheatre's founding artistic director, is a 1998 recipient of a Fellowship from the John S. Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. In 1992, he was one of the last recipients of a Solo Performer Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He received Solo Performer Fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts in 1997, 1995, 1993, 1989, and 1987.
